Upcoming Programming

For incoming and prospective students of color, we will reach about an admissions panel with current students.

Check this website for more updates.

Mentorship Program

This year, we're introducing the Mentorship program to connect current students of color with alumni of color, working in the same fields.

Given the “default” modes of SPIA networking through TigerNet and CDAR are overwhelmingly white, SAOC hopes to build a personal and professional support base of alums of color for current students of color. Mentorship opportunities have two tracks - through ad-hoc conversations and long-term relationships. In the spring, SAOC will host the first mentorship retreat to continue these connections.

If you'd like to join the Mentorship Program, either as a mentor (alumni) or a mentee (current student), fill out the Mentorship Program Survey by September 30.

October: St. Louis Superman

St. Louis Superman is an Oscar-nominated short documentary film that follows the journey of activist, rapper, and politician Bruce Franks Jr.

Directed by Smriti Mundhra and Sami Khan and produced by Poh Si Teng, the film focuses on Franks time in the Missouri House of Representatives. Franks' journey is illuminated by his activism in Ferguson after the killing of Michael Brown and his struggles with his own childhood trauma from gun violence.
